"An Outstanding Pocketknife"

This is a truly outstanding pocketknife. I've owned a Vic Pioneer since th early 1980s and it never let me down. The Farmer is the same knife with the addition of a very functional saw blade.

The Farmer offers a very useful selection of tools yet is still compact enough for comfortable pocket carry. The knife is sharp, retains the edge well, but is easy to sharpen. The bottle and can openers work very well, as do the screwdrivers. The reamer/awl blade is handy for drilling holes in wood or plastic and can be used as a punch through light metal. Additionally, the reamer makes a great striker for fire steels, e.g. the "flint" on a magnesium fire starter.

The Alox scales are nearly indestructable and the stainless steel blades are very corrosion resistant.

I carry mine everyday with a lighter and LED flashlight connected with a chain to the knife's keyring. It makes a perfect pocket survival kit. 5 stars

"Victorinox Farmer is one of the best SAK models"

Everyone has their favorite models of SAK's (Swiss Army Knives) and this model is often on the list of favorites. It certainly is on my list of favorites. One of the Pioneer series, this has thicker or stouter blades then a regular SAK and strong backsprings. The blade is not too thick though, to be effective at cutting.

It has an effective tool selection including a saw. It is relatively thin, despite the essential tools, for easy pocket carry. This is made possible by the Alox scales or aluminum with a grid pattern. One looses the toothpick and tweezers in the process of gaining Alox scales, but they can be carried in a hollow coffee stirrer straw or in a Classic model, if strongly desired. The other notable feature of the Farmer is the forward facing awl which is especially useful in this orientation. This makes it very similar to the Boy Scout pocket knife, yet one gets the bonus of a saw.

This model used to come with red Alox scales, but was only available in silver Alox, i.e. plain aluminum with a grid, for the last few years. Plain aluminum with a grid or Alox has the advantage that any scratches will be the same color, silver. However, the red Alox is beautiful and the highly sought after red is now available in this limited edition. As I type this the Amazon price is highly competitive, and certainly easier than locating an older model, to get the red color Alox. One might prefer other models for certain reasons or tasks, but it is unlikely that anyone would be disappointed with this Victorinox Swiss Army Farmer Pocket Knife (Limited Edition-Red). A great knife! 5 stars

"Great pocketknife at a great price"

This SAK (Swiss Army Knife) is a dandy, especially if you catch it on sale. The Alox metal handle is tough, but excludes the usual tweezers and toothpick that many other SAK's carry. It makes up for this with an awl placed where one can actually use it - far sharper and more useful than the 'sewing awl' included on the backspring of many SAK's. Not to be boring, but you can bore thru some serious material with this one.
It also includes a handy saw blade. I use this in the woods to quickly and quietly clear tree branches that are blocking a shooting lane, my friends and I have also found it handy if you're trying to assemble 'greenwood' utensils such as figure 4 traps. The more common spearpoint blade, can opener and bottle opener also come in handy.

I've bought many of these while on sale and I'm giving most of them away as gifts. Most but not all. I've still got one for my own use. You probably need one, too. 5 stars

"Best Knife to Carry"

I've carried a SAK "Farmer" for years. It's five tools meet 99% of the tasks you might face while in the field. The saw is a tremendous tool. Hunters can use it to saw a deer's aitch bone. The blade sharpens easily, and the small screw driver works well on Phillips heads. Can't go wrong with this knife. 5 stars

"Best little all around knife"

The knife is the best little knife around. It allows you to do may tasks without the bulk. Also, if you are around wet or greasy elements, the rough sides of this one really makes a difference. Your hand does not slide down onto the blade like the other plastic or smooth sided ones. Great too. 5 stars
