"Gets the job done"

I actually own the Velo 8 model, which has 3 features more than this one.
With a very comfortable design, the Velo 5 cycle computer offers the rudimentary set of features that your average cyclist needs.
Ease-of-use are its strong selling point; however, once installed on the handlebar, the unit housing might need a little strengthening.

Overall, if you need a cycle computer and are a tight budget, the Velo 5 is the model for you as it gets the job done! 4 stars

"Quality leaves a lot to be desired"

I purchased the VELO-5 at my local bike shop about a week ago. I had had a computer in the past on a different bike; I don't remember the model, but I bought it at Walmart for $10 or so. I was hoping that a major bicycle accessories company would have a slightly more reliable product.

When I opened the package, I was mildly disappointed; the computer, sensor, and wire were mounted via plastic cinch strips, instead of proper mounting brackets, like the cheap computer I'd last used. Nevertheless, I installed it as indicated in the directions; I had no trouble with the sensor and computer unit, but when I attempted to install the spoke-mounted magnet I immediately stripped the threads on the cheap plastic "bolt" that holds it in place. I wasn't using a pair of pliers, just my fingers. In the end I was able to get it reasonably secure, until I started riding and it immediately slide on the spoke to the rim and the sensor couldn't pick it up. After a few miles, the magnet loosened itself up and flew off the wheel into the woods.

Luckily, I discovered I still had the all-metal magnet/bolt from the old computer I had, and put that on. Worked like a charm.

I wouldn't suggest buying the Velo-5 unless you already have a spoke-mounted magnet lying around that you can use. The computer itself works great; it's accurate, even at low speeds (a major problem for the cheapo Kmart computer I had), and the single-button operation couldn't be simpler to use. If they'd start using a metal backer on the magnet, I'd give it 5 stars. 2 stars

"Good basic computer. ."

The Velo-5 is just what I needed. Basic stuff like time, distance, odometer, and speed. Installing it is easy and quick. One problem is the magnet. The flap that holds the magnet in place is plastic and does tend to slip once in a while. So before every ride I make sure the plastic flap that holds the magnet is tight.

Next item that I have a problem with is the manual. The visuals are for the Velo-8 not the Velo-5. But that's no big deal. The font size is TERRIBLE!. For guys like me, over 59, use a magnifier or you'll get a headache. Mr. Product Manager, PLEASE put a copy of the manual on the web in at least 10 point font so folks like me can read the darn thing.

All in all an ok product.

"A basic bike computer."

I am an older casual bike rider and ride only on bicycle trails in my local area. The Velo 5 was easy to install and seems to work well. The print on the instructions is small for someone with old eyes, but that is not their fault. This is a good basic computer for an ocassional bicyclist. 4 stars

"Nice little device"

I intended to purchase a wireless model, but mistakenly bought this wired version. The wiring was really easy, and really doesn't interfere.
Nice little device. Easy to operate.
